"Brick walls are there for a reason"

*updated with quotes!

Couple of months back, I first heard about The Last Lecture on FB from Yong.

I thought it was mentioned in passing, you know, something for me to check out when I have time, until he passed it -newly bought in plastic bag- to me at our first meeting.

Now if someone did me an Act of Service, I know I had to followup on it (thanks Yong!):

I'm still holding onto it (sorry Yong :p) cos I wanna take down my favourite quotes (hard to scribble on a crowded train with no free hand) for this blog.
And I finally did! Take that, Procrastination!

Then I figured something even better - posting the actual lecture here:

Enjoy the ride =)

Quotes from The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch

"When you're screwing up and nobody says anything to you anymore, that means they've given up on you."
You may not want to hear it, but your critics are often the ones telling you they still love you and care about you, and want to make you better.

"When it comes to men who are romantically interested in you, it's really simple.
Just ignore everything they say and only pay attention to what they do."

"The brick walls are there for a reason. They're not there to keep us out.
They are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.
They are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough.
They're there to stop the other people. "

I’m so so so gonna try making this after SISF *pokes returning-tummy-flab resignedly*

Non-bake Oreo Baileys’ Cheesecake

200g digestive biscuits Oreo cookies (no cream), crushed
100g butter, melted
160g sugar
5 tsp gelatin powder
240ml boiling water
500g cream cheese
100ml Baileys Irish Cream
50g melted dark chocolate, optional

1. Prepare an 8-inch springform pan.
2. Mix the melted butter and digestive biscuits in a mixing bowl till bonded.
3. Lay the mixture firmly onto the pan and freeze the batter for at least 15 minutes.
4. Pour boiling water over the sugar and gelatin powder in a small bowl and stir until dissolved.
5. Place bowl over hot water until the gelatin mixture turns clear.
6. In another large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and bailey’s until light and fluffy.
7. Gradually add in the dissolved gelatin mixture until smooth.
8. Poke some holes on the prepared crust layer with a skewer before pouring the cream cheese batter onto it.
9. Drop dollops of melted dark chocolate onto the cream cheese batter and swirl with a skewer.
10. Chill for at least 2 hours or overnight until firm before serving.

I wonder if an Oreo AND Baileys’ Cheesecake is overkill… Heck it’s cheesecake. That by itself, IS already overkill for a soon-to-be-performing-in-an-ab-revealing-costume salsera.

And and annnd since it is already overkill, how much more damage could it do by upping the ante and turning it into a Double Choc, Oreo AND Baileys’ Cheesecake?

Think swirls of thick dark chocolate caressing your tongue as you bit into delightfully crisp choc chips nestled amidst rich rich cream cheese with a sticky chewy Oreo base. Soak in the familiarly heady aroma of Baileys’ Irish Cream and there you have it – heaven in an 8-inch pan.

Figured if I can’t narrate it like Nigella Lawson, I might as well write like how she’d say it.

Forevabliss, if you're reading this, shall we get tog and make it one day? Shun bian "gan diao" the Betty Crocker Blueberry Muffin Mix I bought wahahaha!

Almost immediately after the ADS party, Zee got us to vote for a few costumes.

Omg, SISF is so happening this year!!!

I voted for this little red number :P

And uploaded this one =P

Can't find the pic of the costume we've decided on. Anw, our measurements have been taken, push-up bras have been bought & snipped,... and abs are still in Sunday training *groan

Estimated costume damage: S$200-S$250

I kept quiet when I first saw that figure. Then again, considering our costume choices and we need to ensure the fabric don't ride up/down during our moves etc, there's really no other way except to tailor.

Oh well, we can always pop down to Arab Street & DIY the sequins/feathers/rhinestones/crystals.

Besides, it's for 2 performances -SISF and Sydney (Jan 2009). Woot woot!
